CHILDREN’S PRIVACY NOTICE

For our research, we collect information about every member of your household, including any children in your household. If we collect information about children, we take special care. When we collect information online (e.g., information associated with streaming videos) directly from very young children (under the age of 13), special regulations apply.

As the parent or guardian of the child(ren) under the age of 13 in your household, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) requires that we provide you with this notice and obtain your verifiable consent prior to the collection of personal information online from your child(ren). Once we have obtained your consent, you will have the ability to withdraw such consent and request access to and/or deletion of your child(ren)’s personal information at any time.

COPPA applies to operators of websites and online services directed to children under the age of 13, operators of general audience websites or online services (including streaming services) with actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information from children under the age of 13, and third parties, such as plug-in providers or ad networks, with actual knowledge that they are collecting personal information from users of another website or online service directed to children under the age of 13.

1. Collection of information from children.

As described in Section B (Information Collection) of the Nielsen U.S. Panel Privacy Notice (herein referred to as the “Privacy Notice”), our router and software (including mobile applications) will collect information about streaming audio and video (TV, radio, computer, and Internet) behavior and preferences from members of your household, including from children who may be under the age of 13. These tools collect personal information from children under the age of 13 in the form of “persistent identifiers,” as explained below.

A child’s participation in the Panel is never conditioned upon the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary for the activity.

Children do not have the option or ability to make personal information publicly available through our equipment or software.

No additional operators collect or maintain personal information from children through our equipment or software.

2. Use of information collected from children

Section C (Information Use) of the Privacy Notice describes how we use information collected from all panelists, including children under the age of 13.

3. Disclosure of information collected from children

Section D (Information Sharing) of the Privacy Notice describes the circumstances under which we may release personal information collected from all panelists, including children under the age of 13, to third parties.

4. Parental notice and consent

We will make reasonable efforts, taking into account available technology, to ensure that a parent or guardian of a child receives direct notice of our practices regarding our collection of personal information from children as well as our use and/or disclosure of such information, including notice of any material changes to practices to which the parent or guardian previously consented.

Verifiable consent from a parent or guardian is required for the collection, use, and/or disclosure of personal information from children under the age of 13, including consent to any material change in the collection, use, and/or disclosure practices to which the parent or guardian has previously consented.

5. Parental choices and controls

Upon request, we will provide a parent or guardian with a description of the specific types or categories of personal information collected from their child.

At any time, a parent or guardian can request that we stop collecting, using, and/or disclosing personal information from their child and can request access to and/or deletion of the personal information in our records that we previously collected from their child. Such requests may result in the termination of the household’s participation in the Panel.

Parents or guardians may make such requests by contacting us at .

We will take reasonable steps to verify a parent or guardian’s identity before granting access to any child’s personal information.

6. Information retention

We will retain personal information collected online from a child for only as long as is reasonably necessary to fulfill the purpose(s) for which the information was collected.

In the event that we discover that we have collected information from a child in a manner inconsistent with COPPA’s requirements, we will either delete the information or immediately seek consent from the parent or guardian for such collection.

I have read and understand this Children’s Privacy Notice and hereby consent to Nielsen’s collection and use of personal information from my child(ren)’s about their media consumption, including streaming media, for Nielsen’s research.
